Anyone done this race before?

My sister sent me the flyer, I had a look and it is quite close to Serengeti, is the terrain similar? I am not really in the mood for another mudfest like that.

Benoni has had a fair amount of rain the last few days.

I reckon the race will be less muddy than Serengeti but still pretty grim.

I'm gonna be skipping this one.

No man, and I am not gonna say HTFU. Track is so wide that you will be able to identify more than one line to miss the mud......otherwise just take the Tiger Woods line and do some mielie ploughing.

Just lube up your baby well......tried the chain saw lube (oil) and chain wax combo on the last few mud rides.....worked very well. Also some marine grease blobs on the outside of the hubs, BB and dust seals of the shocks. You might look like a mobile Vaseline potjie, but your baby will glide smoothly. Prefer a greasy bike to a muddy one.

Entered the 60km.....

Mud has got nothing to do with HTFU - all it does is destroy bikes. There are plenty of options that don't involve mud for Sunday.

Serengeti I rode the SSer and still hated the grinding sound of gritty chain, mud being dragged through between the rear wheel and frame, all over the forks etc. Not cool and unnecessary.

If you think mudfest maketh the man then go for it. I'm out.

Like I stated.....not a question of HTFU.....but rather to have some fun missing the mud. But if you had to go through the mud your bike will be more than greased up on all the important components. I respect your decision, but having some fun on a route that doesn't force you into a muddy singletrack seems like a nice idea......looking forward to the challenge to have a bit of fun. Although I am an old man and have seen and done some weird stuff in my life....I still like to allow the child in me an opportunity to play, even if it means finishing the race last and having a good laugh.....with a cold one ready at the finish.

The really muddy section is quite near Serengeti and the last Dunblane race didn't use that section ... it stays east of Marister rd.

Biggest mud section last year was almost right at the end of the race within the estate.....

Last nights rain certainly did not help, hopefully that's the last and the route will clear up before the weekend. The ground does clear up quite quickly, we rode most of the Serengeti route a week after the race and it was good with only the odd mud patch.

Lots of us just entered for the 35km, just incase the 60 ends up a proper mud fest.

Hopefully the rain will stay away till Sunday afternoon.

The Dunblane race will probably share some sections with the Serengeti race, but not much, certainly not the muddy section near Serengeti.

Don't worry, the route has not even been set yet. This will be done tomorrow and Friday and the team will try avoid any muddy sections. I rode in that area this morning and it wasn't bad at all. Anyway, the route will be pre-ridden on Saturday afternoon.

Did not matter where you rode in that first section of Serengeti, the soil was just a magnet onto the wheels. Everyones wheels from A batch down had problems.

After the first 4 kms dodging mud and riding around stuff was actually good fun, i aimed for the puddles to rinse a bit of mud off.

Good luck
