I've been so furious regarding a second hand on-line purchase I was trying to make and finding out it was a fraud, that I've been trolling as best I can between my day job to find some more. Please don't post unless you are 100% sure. and please give reason for why you think it's a FAKE AD, to warn off others. The 4 I've found to follow.....

These dudes operate all over. They don't just "deal" in bicycles but most things found for sale on gumtree or ebay or the like... Got myself shafted out of 2grand in December with pretty much the same modus operandi that you mentioned in one of your other posts. Add was taken straight from Gumtree Australia site and posted locally with just the price changed.... Opened a case of fraud at SAPS. Gave them all the details including a Capitec bank account where money was deposited which they could easily have used to track down said perpetrators. But alas few shoulder shrugs from the SAPS and sorry not much we can do.

So moral of the story. If it looks to good to be true, IT IS!! Report the add and walk away. Don't scheme you gonna score lekker as all that will happen is you will get shafted and there is nothing you can do because you willingly paid the money or handed over your item for sale.

Deal face to face with cash only.

I have tried to contact the current user via contact number, same as the previous too, no facility to leave a message and no response to my e-mail on either the Vottle or Junk Mail. there may be one Valid offer here but surely not all of them?

Great tip from

Gandalf

"If you have google chrome, have the picure open in google chrome, right click on the picture and "search google for this image" you will find posts and pictures related to that picture, you will be able to see where else the user has posted the ad or if the picture was just pulled off the net. Same applies for users provided details, a google search will show all related to it.

Someone should start a thread "how to avoid or spot a scam" where we can post tips to avoid or spot a scam."

Or just google for similar images. If you spot similar images ask for more photo's and be specific about something odd you want to see.

Man those are some vicious honey traps! Mightily fine cannondales, make sure you use model numbers and words that people googling them will get this thread as a search return. Good on you for exposing these guys!
