"No name" wheel build

I have hope hubs laced to spank vomax23 rims. Man oh man those babies are nice!!!!

 

I was lent the same setup for a few months once. Man oh man indeed Went with the Spank Oozy for my own wheelset, pretty much a thicker Vomax. But I'll never forget the feel of those rims.

Oops..... there is a set of 650B crests/hopes in the classifieds - but you are probably going to bend them too... but the hubs will survive that...

 

If you really want to cheapen the build - do it by putting in a cheapish rear hub of ok quality - so lets say:

 

Rims x 2 - 2000

Spokes/nipples - 1000

Front hub - hope - 1100

Rear hub - Novotech - 1000

Wheel build - R1000

 

= 6k - and if you scratch around there is probably some savings to be made here - I rounded up off evobikes pricing.

 

 

 

Then if and when the rear hub lets go, you can swap it to a hope.

Noob question: Why would you go for a lower quality rear hub and a better front hub? I would've thought it would be the other way around?

Spotted what looks like a great deal today:

 

Dartmoor Rocket Enduro/AM rim = (2 x R595)

Dartmoor Spokes (64) = R492

Dartmoor X-Drive Front hub = R637

Dartmoor Rear Disc hub = R1232

Nipples = R200

 

Total: R3751

 

Anyone heard of or had any experience with the brand?

They advertise their Rocket Rim as a enduro/all mountain rim which is exactly what I'm looking for!

 

Best part about all of this is the epic colours they come in Jokes, best part is definitely the price.

Best way to achieve cost savings - a hope rear is around 2700, so you save 1700 by doing that - cheap front hub saves 200.... better to put in a quality hub for the small amount of extra, because a failure there will hurt... a rear failure probably less so.

 

You can get rims at around 700 each - so save 600.... not a big saving, but possibly a large reduction in quality. Spokes - no way do you cheap out on spokes, and you don't want to cheap out on the builder.

Cool, I will keep looking. Trying to find out about the Dartmoor products, wheels specifically, to see what the quality of them is like.
