Only trail running as far as I can see.  Possibly trail runners b!tch and moan less about route markings, refreshment tables and medals :-)  

I hear you, but compare entry fees for a trail running event vs a mtb event. Mtb events are far more expensive generally. Sad to lose this race, seems like mtb races are becoming less and less in Cape Town.

yep.  I rode this one probably 2 or 3 years back.  Was a good race and I had no qualms in terms of organisation.

Looking at it from an organizers point of view I would think setting up a trail run is easier and cheaper.  So your outlay is a lot less, much less stress over all and a similar return?  Just my thoughts - no evidence either way.
