FRAIL for sure is the fastest Hubber from C Town to Jhb and back. Also, he's the only person I can think of that's done it a few times. His time can't be far off the record (I would guess) for amateurs. Send him a pm.

Hi there

I am brand new to this forum.

I am planning to cycle down to CT from PTA in November.

I am cycling with by BTB and would like to ride on as much dirt road as possible.

Has anyone ever did it on a dirt road from PTA to CT?

Thanks in advance

I presume you mean November 2015?

Could probably be done mostly on gravel/dirt. Would you like some company, I would like to do it as well?

Cape Town, Wellington, Ceres, Sutherland, Fraserburg, Carnavon, Prieska, Douglas, would be roughly my route if I ever try that. From there further I don't know the world too well, but I'm sure someone who knows the back roads further North can give advice.

Fraik is your best bet. He hardly sleeps wheb he travels up and back.

As for the gravel road thing. Sounds lekker! Keep us posted. Would love to do it.

Probably the easiest would be to go from Pretoria (around the western side of Krugersdorp) to Potchefstroom (or vicinity) and then pick up the railway line which heads all the way down to Cape Town, there is a service road running along the line which can be followed pretty much all the way. Use google earth to check for any dodgy bits and plan detours accordingly.
