Is it feasible to have XT pedals serviced/repaired ,with the cost of labour being what it is ? The one pedal has developed unusual movement.(bearings ? )

Movement of the pedals is not unusual for Shimano clipless pedals. Usually only needs a tightening of the nuts that pushes the ball bearings configuration tight. A quick fix, but careful if you want to try it yourself!! PM me if you need help.

You can do it yourself if you've got a bench vice, an 8mm allen key and a small socket set. It's a bit more fiddly to set the bearings if you don't have the proper Shimano tools, but still very much possible.

Instructions here.

Even if you don't do it yourself, my opinion would always be to fix if you can instead of adding to the waste stream...

Is the movement in the pedal relative to the axle or is your foot loose when clipped in? If the latter, you probably just need new cleats. I assume the worn pedal is the one you clip in and out of the most?
