Is the tubeless conversion already done by Giant on the Reign2?

Can't find any info on it!

 

All the Bikes are equipped with Hans Dampf?

Some pictures on the internet showing Maxxis tyres?

 

My LBS offered me the conversion for free, i would therefore rather go with the Racing Ralph @ the back, and keep the Hans Dampf as a spare.

Yes all SA bikes get HD. Not tubeless stock.

Sooo, I have run into some extra moola... I may be willing to pimp the reign a little bit. My main objective would be to rid the bike of its one or two low rent parts, save a little bit of weight if possible and improve its up hill / longer distance capabilities.

 

Rear Tyre: Rock Razor is on its way already.

 

Wheelset: I suppose the defacto Flow EX on Hope? How much could I get for the stock wheels that are in pretty good condition besides for a dent on the one side wall? I'd imagine someone with a Trance may want them as a stronger AM alternative.

 

Something else that is just begging to be upgraded is the crank. Is it worth upgrading the rest of the drivetrain to SLX or is that not a big enough upgrade from Deore? Truth be told I kind of prefer SRAM but a decent sram drive train is big money.

 

Perhaps upgrade to SLX crank and go 1x10 at the same time? Isnt it possible to get a bigger cog at the back to help out when things get tough?

 

I'm willing to spend 4k or so per month on upgrades.

 

The important things, frame, fork, shock, dropper etc are all perfect.

Get an XT cassette 11/36 so you can add the 42T or 40T with a 16T inserted. All of that if you shop carefully can be R2000 with a front NW ring - look at Rapide or similar 1x10 kits... also should include a blank-off cover for where the front derailleur was. I think the SRAM stuff is way overpriced and an XT cassette is really some of the best stuff around.

 

you should be able to convert the stock deore crank to 1x... not worth it to go to slx crank from that deore you have there... rather save more and buy one you really like or is really special... no use swopping good parts for good parts besides the weight saving is so small -

 

deore > SLX +/- 60g  - Deore > XT +/- 100g - Deore > XTR +/- 200g

 

you can then maybe look for a XT clutch rear derailleur... should round up your R4K with some change to pay for entry fee at your local bike park to go rip it up... :thumbup:

xt is good weight, good qual and relatively inexpensive.

 

stuff that makes a noticeable difference is shifters and cassette and then the derailleur.

 

Even just shifters alone - XT or XTR is so much sharper... also your cassette probably quite heavy also so a XT will help there also... especially if you going 1x10. but if you looking to loose weight then the shifters are not gonna help that much. and with 1x10 you are only gonna use 1...

 

Do the 1x10 conversion with the deore shifter, deore crank and XT cassette and clutch derailleur first.

 

Then change the crank maybe and so forth...

I have also heard that when it comes to upgrades, the shifters make far more of a difference in comparison to the RD. I know Bibi is testing out the Vittoria WTS. They designed by the same guys who did the Mavic CrossMax. Worth a shout

Fitted the Rock Razor this evening. Looking good! Will test it tomorrow on some nice inclines.

 

Still undecided on the drivetrain.

 

Currently I have:

Deore crank

Deore shifters

Deore Cassette

SLX Derailleur

 

Obviously a SRAM 1x11 would be great but I'm not willing to blow R11k on that.

 

Kind of need to decide SRAM X0/X9 vs Shimano Zee/XT

 

Any suggestions? Will put a narrow wide 32t on the front and go 1x10. Will get an extender only if I feel I need it after a few rides.

When you go 1x10, change the shifter to a Saint shifter. They are not too expensive and it will make you feel as if your SLX RD is an XT/XTR RD!

Will def look at saint shifter. How about saint crank?

 

I wouldn't bother with the crank, if you want to shed some weight look at an XT crank.

Quality wise, there is nothing wrong with the deore cranks :thumbup:

I have heard the XT crank is not as strong and stiff as the SLX / Deore hence looking at the Saint.

 

I know Deore decent but I want to upgrade it... it just doesnt feel(in my mind) right on the Reign.
