Stripped rear drop out

Hi guys

My rear drop out screw hole is stripped! I can tighten the hanger on using the one screw but the other one keeps turning. I have taken it all apart, cleaned and swopped the screws but no luck... It takes 2 or 3 rides and the the hanger loosens considerably therefore affecting shifting... Is there anything I can do? It's a merida big nine frame aluminium 2012 model. I have attached photos

Thanks

Hi, you can just replace the hangar. I think they cost around R150. Any Merida dealer should be able to help you.

Ok great so the hanger is threaded not the frame?! Blind... Been riding for 15 years and never knew that... Never had an issue before

Maybe sound advice from a metallurgist will contribute in solving the problem cheaply. As suggested, a new part will do the trick......maybe apply some LockTite before inserting a retaining screw for a better fit and preventing it from vibrating itself loose again. Permanent damage to the rear structures can be a costly repair exercise.

Based on your pic it looks like the hanger has the threaded part so a new hanger (and bolts) should fix it. Most bikes I have seen the frame is threaded or they use a clamp bolt similar to those that clamp your sprockets to the crank.

If I somehow am misinterpreting the 1st pic and the frame is threaded then you might have to drill and tap for a bigger bolt. I am not sure if you can get a helicoil for such small thread 'cos that is another possibility
