  1. Problem is...its a titan, whatever you buy it for today you will sell it at a huge loss tomorrow as their high end bikes have no resale value. And a 5 year warranty where most other brands have a lifetime warranty..too many of their older carbon frames have had issues in the past...sorry, but I will pass..
  2. Someone that tall and weighing 150kg should not ride a xc bike. He will do one or two rides and be put off cycling completely. I would say a minimum of 120mm travel on the fork, but would prefer 140mm so as to get the bars higher. Most trail bikes will be able to handle his weight, for training and casual riding. XC Bike will be very aggressive and will put a huge amount of strain on his hands, wrists. neck and lower back.
  3. Your biggest challenge will be suppliers, and a bike brand or two. Believe me, if you have one or more active shops in your area, you will not be supplied. Some bike shop owners will literally threaten suppliers to keep them from supplying you. Its also very difficult to get a bike brand, as they will not supply you if there is a dealer of that brand anywhere near your location. Small bicycle shops are closing at a very high rate and unless you have a few bar to spend, you will be wasting time and money. PM me and I will get in contact with you and give you more details as I have experienced this first hand.
  4. That part is causing lots of issues as its one of the causes for a creaking shimano rear hub. It also has to be installed correctly. Go on youtube and search for creaking shimano rear hub.
  5. Also having issues with ratings where I was contacted directly via cellphone, now I am unable to rate person as there is no visible messages between myself and buyer on the hub...
  6. I added my bike on to my King Price insurance, and I had to claim after having the bike insured for about a year. The claim was paid out and settled in 8 days. I am super happy with King Price bike insurance.
  7. Rudi, prepare yourself as Trek bearings are extremely expensive. Problem no1 is that you can only get Trek components from Trek dealers and no other bike shop. Many of Trek bearings are unique and although they carry the same code they sometimes differ as the inner race is wider than normal. I have paid up to R350 per bearing. Arch Cycles should be able to help you.
  8. They do make some good looking bikes, however.... Mamy of the large manufacturers now offer their carbon bike with a lifetime warranty. Paying R107k for a titan, that i will never do as they hold very bad resale value.
  9. Huge stock problems in the bicycle industry, especially in the kids ranges and low to mid range bikes. High end bikes are in stock all over. Parts are a huge nightmare, as its becoming very difficult to find basic items. To top it all off, companies like cool heat and cape cycles (Shimano and Sram importers) have blocked several overseas websites like Chain Reaction cycles, so you are even unable to order from them. Maybe the competition commission should look into this.
  10. Pyga has great products but their current way of trading isnt great. Friend of mine bought a Pyga and waited more than 2 weeks for the bike.
  11. In fact, should shopping malls not then be limted to 50 people only..if you have people spread accros a 33km area, surely you cannot compare that to having thousands in a closed mall.
  12. Yes...yes..but fill the taxis to 100%..absolutely in sane how this country operates.
  13. This is unfortunately why many bike shops refuse to support asg. They trade unethically to the point that they would offer the same item that a bike shop sells, at less than what the bike shop actually paid for the item. Bike shops couldnt make any money on their product, as they would sell certain things direct to clients below our cost.thats why they opened a shop and mainly sells direct now.
  14. So according to my knowledge Hullabaloo were looking at changing the local sales model of RM completely. As a retailer you had to do an upfront order for the following year, and commit to the stock you ordered. Now as a retail shop to carry that kind of risk is impossible as you had to get specific models and sizing correct, otherwise you would sit sit with the stock. I think thats where the RM brand in South Africa failed. Sad story, awesome bike.
  15. Shocking...sorry, but that should be treated as murder with no option for a fine. Straight jail time. RIP...
  16. Scott Spark, Scotts new suspension and geometry is fantastic.
  17. Find a nice 920xt, or get a Suunto they sell for low prices. Personally i would not pay the prices they charge for the new garmin 6 range as i think its simply crazy what they charge. I just cannot see myself spending around R13000 to R16000 for what i call a disposable watch.
  18. If the tyres are that difficult to get on properly, i would run less tape and maybe a thinner tape. You will also struggle big time to get them off the rim if you need to fix a puncture or something.
  19. What rims do you have, and what rim tape are you using? Some rims like the Stans range you only use a thin layer of the yellow type rim tape. If you use anyting else you will have a problem.
  20. Exactly..even chain length, guys don't understand what severe impact this has on the shifting side of things.
  21. I find in general that lots of shops struggle with setting SRAM Eagle properly. I find it easy, as with SRAM you need a liitle less tension on the cable than with Shimano. Also if you shift to the largest gear at the back, the guys often adjust the tension screw too much so that the gap between the top derailleur wheel and large cassette ring is too big, thereby having too much tension on the drivetrain. The result is that you gear up well, but it struggles to gear down especially in the 3 largest rings. I really think that SRAM is a really good system, it needs to just be adjusted properly. I would however not buy anything below GX. As for Shimano, nothing wrong with their 10, 11 or 12 speed group sets..it just seems to get better and better every time they launch something new.
  22. Also wouldnt help having q longer steerer as you will drop 20mm in stack height by fitting the 100mm fork
  23. Fitting a 100mm fork on a camber would in my opinion not be a good idea at all.
  24. Why?? Because I am pointing out that I think the cyclists in this group are also to blame for this accident? Yes, I also think the bus was to close. I was taught from a young age to keep as far left as it is possible and that's what I believe in. Before I overtake another cyclist I check behind to see that there is no car approaching from the rear. I cannot understand why this is so difficult to understand. I feel very sorry for the cyclists involved as I see them as human beings with families, but what we as cyclists fail to realise is that motorists see us as cyclists and not as a father, or a mother or a child. The guy using the camera: Clearly if you look at where he was riding to film, it is a distraction. If it was not a distraction, where is the rest of the video? The camera suddenly points down because he has to grab hold of his handle bars to steer clear of the accident. The people in this group were clearly riding next to each other on a few occasions, not only when overtaking.
