I remember seeing this live on TV in 1991 before I had started cycling.

The rider is Djamolidine Abdoujaparov from Uzbekistan. Final stage of the TdF on the Champs Elysees. He had gathered enough points to win the green jersey but had to be helped onto his bike and ride the remaining 100m to the finish with paramedics walking along side him in order to officially finish and actually win the jersey.

The 2nd or 3rd angle from above shows how he slides accross the tar at speed....EISH!

He is still my favorite sprinter ever(even though he failed a dope-test in '97....everyone was doping then anyway so it was a fair playing field)

Known as 'The Tashkent Terror' because of his very aggressive style of sprinting. One of the coolest things about him though is that the last stage victory of his carreer was after a breakaway on a mountain stage!

Did anyone ever see the 1991 Tour Du Pont? Holy crap, there was a really bad crash with a guy totally unaware that there were guys passing on his inside!! He just veered straight in front of them and POW!!! The whole bunch was down!!

Jobie dajka and and Ryan bayley still quite young making a mess of it.

the third rider did several minutes over the last 200meters. 2 riders did'nt make it to the line.

the fight for bronze was heroic a german dragging his bike along with the same arm he broke his colarbone in that crash. Chased by Buran with a messed up bike. 2mindown on secend and these guys where just a second or so apart. Herroic moment and I sat on the front Row

Speaking of crashes, one of my new favourite shows on TV has to be "Whacked out sports" - I think its on "Zone Reality" not sure when its on but I always seem to find a re-run, phenominal what some folk do, ............and survive, which is the strange part.!

Lots of Bike crashes, but the most spectacular are the extreme snow ski accidents, tumbeling down an entire mountain, bouncing off rocks and cliff faces is not uncommon..
