Out of the saddle

Hi , I am fairly new to cycling, mid life crisis and all that, been cycling for a bout a year now and here is my question....I tend to spend a lot of time out of the saddle while cycling, far more than other ppl that I may ride with in an event or around the cradle etc....I do this for 2 reasons, one it helps me stretch my legs a bit and obviously helps with speed etc...

now , noob question is, is this ok to do or should I focus on staying seated more and only get out of the saddle when absolutely needed.

thanks
