I have been looking at getting an activity tracker to get some info out of my days.. Looking at Fitbit, Garmin Vivofit, and the Jawbone UP24..

Anybody here got some first hand experience? Or some advice? Heart rate monitoring doesn't seem to be a feature these bands come loaded with. How important is it? Also how many features can I just simply use my phone for? Strava the right way?

I am kinda new to cycling gadgets, and I would like to buy right, when I buy.

I bought my wife a fitbit almost a year ago, I thought she might use it for a bit then stop, boy was I wrong.

She has used it constantly and loves all the info it gives her. The sleep cycle monitoring works well too but I dont really see much point in it. It is very helpful at reminding you to be active during the day.

You can upload your data on a fitbit wirelessly while a jawbone you have to plug in! I have a fitbit, use it with my iPad and iPhone. The mrs has a jawbone and she hates the fact that she has to plug it in all the time. That being said the jawbone seems more sturdy. I like the fact however, that I can order new fitbit bands on eBay for ultra cheap! So ya, pros and cons. Fit bit is more comfy and wireless, jawbone sturdy and looks cool! I'd go with the fitbit

Why not use the loads of apps such as moves or build in health apps on iPhone or android... They do the same and are free, on the iphone 6 it has a gyroscope, acelerometer and barometer so has a super accurate read on steps, run, stairs etc...

Carrying around an iphone or any phone for that matter is a pain. There are times when you dont want to carry it but want to still be capturing data.

Wearables like the the jawbone or fitbit have good battery life and are purpose made for monitoring.

Ok, I bought a Jawbone UP24 for the my better half, she seems excited!

I think I am leaning towards a Polar device, or something similar. Heart Rate, and GPS are more the kind of things that I would find helpful, whilst training to become the mostest fastest fittest cyclist ever!
