Right well seeing as KZNMTB have set up a thing on here and have posted the event dates - I may as well start a thread for it .....

Introducing the 2015 KZNMTB Series!

For 2015 the Enduro and DH events will be combined at the same venues with the Enduro taking place on the Saturday and the DH on the Sunday.

We have tried to have it that the venues have the potential for on-site accommodation too, be it camping as with Karkloof and Giba - or proper accommodation as in St Ives ....

I am still in discussions with regards to the whole process  but we are looking for each event to have a festival type vibe with craft beer stalls and burgers and such .... So keep an eye out for my updates.

Round 1 - 7th and 8th February - KARKLOOF!

Round 2 - 21st and 22nd March (long weekend!) - ST IVES, Lions River ... TOTALLY NEW TRACKS and VENUE

Round 3 - 25th and 26th April - GIBA GORGE

KZN CHAMPS - 6th and 7th June - CASCADES

BOOM!!!

How do these, specifically enduro, suite total noobs? I really wanna get into endure, but I only have a HT.

They're shedloads of fun. I saw loads of people doing them on hardtails last year. A friend of mine who hasn't been riding long gave it a go on her 29er hard tail and managed to ride everything. The enduro races have a really cool, encouraging atmosphere and the release time gaps between riders means that you aren't under pressure from a rider behind you to hit anything you're not comfortable with. You can take it all at your own pace.

Dont be put off by the words "Provincial Series" ... all this means is that the races count towards overall points for the year ... (same as the ROAG series etc - it just means that if you get your racing licence you can gain points and be ranked in KZN) ....

As for the trails - for Enduro they will be a mix of stuff.  Because you are primarily racing down the hills and along the flats a Hardtail will be a bit rough ... but if you put your seat down a bit you should be fine on 80% of the stuff ... There are no massive gnarly sections that we have planned, so you may be a touch slower, but will still have fun.

Just remember that its quite technical, so if you are a TOTAL noobie to riding too then dont be surprised if you are out of your depth in one or 2 spots on the stages. But this is the fun of it as you ride the trails to test yourself ...

Ya then you should be fine ... our trails we will use will have some sections that are steeper than normal XC Marathons have in them, but at our last one all the riders got down them ok ... there were the odd spills here and there, but thats to be expected in any race

Which of the 4 will be a good one to start with, a nice intro to enduro?

All of them will be fine to learn on. Just enter and ride the trails with the aim of having a good time. You can start pushing (if you want to) once you feel comfortable with the format and you have an idea of what the trails are like (technically).

Karkloof! ... so the first one ...

The stages are some of the descending sections in the trails used for the 60km Karkloof Classic Marathon.

Quite a bit of pedalling, but fun flowing trails.

St Ives - we are still building - so we not sure yet - one trail i know will be quite pedally, but the others should be more natural off the hill with bench cut singletrack, some rocks and a couple of roots thrown in for good measure.

Giba - has everything you can imagine - trails with like zero pedalling, others with lots, steep stuff, flat stuff, tabletop jumps, rocks, roots, bank rides, you name it! Proper all round venue

Cascades - steep at the top flatter at the bottom of the hill, awesome fast open stages.
