Hi, how far did you get with this? I have the same play on my x8 cassette, but was told by some forum members I have no knowledge of bikes and it's best left to the pro's :-(

Hey I took cassette off checked freebody, all was good put it back on and the play was still there about 1mm, i found out that my 9th and 10th sprocket has damaged teeth causing the jumps, so saving for a XTR, unless anyone can recommend better.

Press, play, then reverse, then play or fast forward, then reverse again until the cassette plays properly. If necessary, use a pencil inside the little cogs to take up the slack of the tape.

Edit: Sorry, I thought I was in the 1980s SADF thread. Herstel!

 I got about 4mm :-(

Um yeah i would check your freebody out, thats alot of play, when you hold the 1st gear sprocket and giggle back and fourth it shoud not be 4mm, take your cassette off when you get a chance and then check the freebody on the hub.

Can you post a pic of the "damaged" cogs?

Give your LBS a shout and ask if they have 1 mm spacer, maybe contact Wayatt...(Summit cycles, Anton)

and XTR is not really "better" just lighter.

Look at something that is coated and just plain "steel" that can rust.

XT or SLX cassette, but personally I found to that I got me KM out of the SRAM 1050 /1051 and on my "race" bike I run a 1070

If you like to power, then look after your chain. Run a 1051, sram or XT type chain and MEASURE it on a regular basis and it should last a while

In theory, if you look after you chain, it is the chain that causes the most wear on the Chainrings and the Cassette.

Measure the chain often and replace early. Also google, how to lube it correctly.
