  1. I smaak riding that bike. It feels as if you can just keep going, and going and going. It's like driving a caddy :-)
  2. Fistly, I would like to say thanx to all the forum members that assisted me with parts to build a bike for my nephew. It's nothing spectacular, the objective was to get him mobile, which I think we accomplished. Still some finishing touches to be done, got to get some V brakes. I took the levers off my Huffy (scrap) as it's got an all in one unit. Some snags encountered along the way, among them the routing for the front derailleur, the old frame runs from the bottom, the parts I got runs from the top (never saw that one coming), rear derailleur needs a hanger (neither did I see that one), fork did'nt fit as well. This bike give an amazing ride, probably because it's as solid as a tank. Some of the goodies, like the 9 speed cassette, shifters will be going onto a frame for myself as I'm now minus some components. No way I'm gonna give him that LOLOL. Was thinking of resparaying the bike, if and when funds allow it, I'll get him another frame and do a proper rebuild for him. Again, a beeeg thanx to all. Here as some pics of the bike and Joshua, my nephew.
  3. Pamela -ToTo Been around for years, never really liked it back then, but now I cant stop listening to it.
  4. I'm tired of sukkeling. So this is what I was thinking of doing. Based on the comments and suggestions I got from some of the other forum members regarding the "Huffy" I got, I'm considering giving my nephew that (he gonna smile) and getting a descent frame to work with. Seeing that I have some good components to work with. Now I have seen a few in the classifieds going for around R600 (up country) and they seem to be pretty descent quality. I dont have cash just lying around for a bike, and I dont mind the bike standing for a while, until it gets finished. Something like this and in this price range, give or take a hundred or so :-) https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/126293-merida-2012-tfs-500-frame/ So, does anybody have a medium frame they wanna sell?
  5. Snag, snag, snag! Always get snags!
  6. I just got a set of 3x9 shifters, but I am sure there is someone out there that could use them. Infact, I know of a gal that has grip shifts on her bike that needs replacing. I could find out from her if she would like to change, it's up to you.
  7. Thanx to Jakkels for the deraileurs and other goodies.
  8. Now I aint no bike macki or specialist, but somethings seriously wrong here. http://www.gumtree.co.za/a-sports-bicycles-fitness/strand/diamondback-mountain-bike/1001238697410910032084309 Just and easy way to fit a reflector to the front of a bike, I guess.
  9. So, looks like I'm almost there, NixM might have some shifters aswell, not confirmed but he will check. I did forget one thing, damn brake handles But to those that offerd up some spares, a BEEEEEG thank you to all. I'll be sure to upload some pics of the bike as we go along. Regards Cedric
  10. Thanx NixM, pm as requested. Now just need shifters and we done.
  11. Thanx Wannabe, but wheels are sorted. Thanx to dirkieuys for those. Now to get V brakes and shifters and he sorted. So if anybody has these then pls lemme know.
  12. 2 posts! Modz can you pls delete one of them.

  15. Constructive criticism accepted. Would at least like to get the wheel and shock sorted first. I wouldn't want the next person to go through what i am going through. As it stands, to buy a new wheel and get the fork sorted is gonna cost more than the bike
  16. Lol, i never bought it there. I was warned about them once before. Tree of Gum provide me with the kopseer this time around. Why cant people just be donders honest. Suppose its to much to ask that of them.
  17. As some of you might know or have read. I had a large frame Orbea a while back. Brilliant bike to say the least, drove like a Caddy. Problem was, at only 1.67m i developed very bad wrist pains. The more i used ut the worst it got. Bike was sold with the intention of getting something else, which i eventually did get. A supposed 6 month old Huffy DS7. Ja ja, not the best or great at all. Now after riding it for one day, problems started creeping in. First to go was the rear wheel. It was perfect when i left, but on my way home the wheel had buckled all on its own. How is that even possible? New wheel as its to far gone to repair, according to the cycle shop in Plumstead. Sad part is, it uses a cog, no cassette. Second problem, on the same day nogal. The shock, this might be difficult to explain, the thing sort of flexes. Its like looking down the length of metal tube and bending it. Scary na. Anyway, seller not interested in hearing anything. According to him it was all fine. Just thought I would share my story with yall. Cycling on a regular basis just ain't for me.
  18. Naa, this isn't going to work quite like I expected. Guys, thanx for the offers for parts, but will no longer be taking it, it's getting to much. As Porqui said, it's now a whole bike. Regards Ceedric
  19. Hello guys, thanx for the help and parts. I have a problem with the from on the mongoose I have for my nephew. The damn seat post is rusted in there, can't turn it at all, so no raising or even lowering the seat post . No wonder there was a hole drilled through it, previous owner must have tried to twist it somehow.
  20. Hey guys, thanx to all that offered parts, it's most appreciated. If it ain't to far to collect, then I'll pop around whenever it suites you.
  21. Just a bump in case anybody has missed this
  22. Hey guys, I'm looking to fix up a bike for my nephew. I have started a thread elsewhere, here is the link and some pics so you guys can see what he is using and what I have thus far. https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/146181-request-for-some-help/ So far I have a Mongoose Rockadile Pro frame, seat and post, Shimano front derailleur and chain. Any parts that you think might work here is most welcome and appreciated. We in Cape Town, Southern Suburbs and will collect. Regards Cedric
  23. Well, I bought the frame, the salesman was obviously not to interested in it being to big for me.. Thought it would be a good upgrade on the mongoose I had. Also, the spot just between my arse and my nuts seems to be more in pain than my actual cheeks. I can see the relation between that and me leaning so far forward. It's just the rest of the bike seemed fine so didn't really figure frame size to be an issue. Anybody wanna swop me a medium frame for this one? As for me being serious about cycling! I love it although I don't always have the time to do it. But when I do go out with my son, I would like a comfortable drive without issues like this. It could lead to worse and it will eventually just deter me from going anywhere with a bike. So it's off frame hunting, again! What happened to the days of just buying a bike and riding it. Thanx for the replies and the explanations guys, it's appreciated
  24. rofl, nice one. But ja, the okes are so skelm man. I had lots of camera gear on the tree of gums at one time, and jusso, I swear these people sit at the same damn internet cafe phoning us. The first call had for my lens, I heard a lady screaming in the background, I declined the offer due to obvious reasons, on the second call (a different no and guy this time) I heard the same lady screaming in the background. No wat ga he aan! Donderse skelms!
  25. Now this might sound stupid, but is there a hard and fast rule for setting seat height? Been out with my bike thrice now, and always come back with a pain in da arse and aching wrists. I can understand the arse part, that will pass with time (I hope) but the wrists? Currently have a large frame bike and my height is 1.67m and seat is set to almost it's lowest.
