Hi

Buying my first Enduro bike in December, and I need some UNBIASED advice please.

I'm deciding between these two as my budget aint large.

and

I'm leaning towards the Commencal as it has better components and is 5k cheaper, but it is older...

Your advice and comments would be greatly appreciated.

The Commencal is only a 100mm travel rear end with a 120mm fork ... So not really large enough travel IMO ...

The Meta 5.5 on their site is better as it has 140mm travel. http://dialdbikes.co.za/commencal-meta-5.5-limited-2010.html

The giant is ok and has good geometry etc. and 140mm travel front and rear.

But the fork and shock are not the best. Especially that giant rear shock. Id be a bit iffy about that.

What about the 2nd hand market?

If they have the Meta 5.5 in XL I will take it in a heart beat... The site says "No Stock" but "In stock with supplier". I have mailed them though, will wait and see.

If you don't mind good ol' 26ers: Give the Orbea Rallon 30 a look. Contact Fluidlines.
Flipping sexy bike in my opinion. They gave me a good price (similar to your Giant) when I asked.

That is a sexy bike indeed! And I really don't mind 26", my HT is a 26" and I love it. Not a fan of 29" at all.

I'm also desperately hunting around for an enduro capable bike that I can still do regular marathons and stage races without swearing at it on every climb.

There's plenty on them around

I reckon the Giant Trance 27.5 is that bike - maybe put a bigger fork on if you absolutely must.
