I have 2 bikes, and my family have another 4. One of my bikes is more expensive than the sum of all the other bikes. Everything I have paid for all the bikes and associated accessories (like helmets, bike rack, tools etc.) is still less than my cheapest car (and I mean cheap car).

In terms of Annual salary (net), my expensive bike is around 5%. But this should last me for at least the next 2 years.

Justifying the cost of cycling is not a problem because of the benefits. My races usually end up being a mini holiday which I never did (my family loves it).

So someone out there spent over twice their annual income on a bike? Really?

My bikes individually would cost me 2.5 years salary to replace. I am a student and race at a high level. I didn't pay retail prices as I work part time in a lbs and have managed to get some deals over the years. But I did save like crazy for 2 years to buy my MTB.
