Back wheel coming loose

Hope fully someone can point me in the right direction.

My son rides a Silverback Storm and a little while ago his back wheel started coming loose during rides. He would have to stop, undo the skewer, place wheel back in position, tighten skewer and get going again. It was happening a few times during a 30km race. Took it in to LBS who replaced skewer and the problem seemed to be sorted, now a few months later it is happening again.

Any suggestions ?

As far as I know the Dropouts on any carbon frame should be metal (probably aluminium).

I will check a couple of things:

1. Is the dropouts damaged or possibly not parallel with each other (check inside and outside)

2. Is the skewer's star/adjustment nut damaged (not that the nut have small teeth that bites into the dropout which should keep it from moving)

3. Check the Cam side of the skewer for damage (again there may be some small teeth that bites into the dropout).

4. Check if the hollow QR axle in the wheel is straight (if its a Shimano Hub, this part can easily be replaced with a new one including the cones and lock nuts)

Hope you get it figured out.

Thanks, will explore these options.

Last thing you can check is that the axle ends do not extend past/outside the actual frame, otherwise the quick release clamps against the axle ends and not the frame.

The axle ends should be slightly shorter than the width of the frames dropouts.
