Interesting wipeout - possible?

So I was riding my regular, local route, and hit a small ditch I often ride over - only this time I spectacularly flipped over my handlebars for a classic wipeout.

Interesting thing was, when I picked up my bike, my front brake (old school v caliper brake) was jammed locked.

I presume the impact into the ditch somehow damaged the front brake and locked it, resulting in the front flip - but is this even possible?

Welcome to The Hub

Small change in body position can make a big difference out on the trails. Could be that it's more worn or that you hit it slightly differently resulting in your OTB experience. The crash can result in a jammed shut V-Brake.

Good to see in true mtb'ing spirit your first concern is the bike...you'll fit right in!

Emporers Palace Classic 2014...

Riding in the peleton nice and easy, going about 38km avg.

Hands in the drop's. suddenly the peleton start to slow down.

got a fright, reflex action, I grip the brakes.

front brake locks up.

Spectacular somersault to follow, me and the bike!

Lucky my bike was ok.

Manage to complete the race, needless to say, no peleton, pacelines and nice things...

Only me, a messed up chin and right arm.

Long and short of it, front brakes, on road/off road they can be bad, bad things!!

Your question, "Is it possible?", absolutely!

That's why my back brake lever is by my right hand.

My back brake lever is by my right hand side!

Better to not assume, because your front brake is on the left hand side, it cannot happen!
