Broken XT I-spec Type A brake

The LBS advises me that me left brake lever is kaput and needs to be replaced I took it there after I couldn't bleed the brakes properly, seems they couldn't either.

Now it seems as if I can't buy Type A any longer, only type B. But type B doesn't fit into the Type A shifter. So unless I can find a type A brake from a hubber, I need to buy new brakes and shifters? And the Left and right unless I import online?

Any advise appreciated

Thanks

Apparently you can mod the A type shifter mount to fit the B type mount on the brake and it works perfectly, was a thread discussing it a while back.

Or you can get KCNC clamps to mount your shifters on separately.

You should be able to buy Left or Right brake lever on its own. We have ordered them as needed before.

If you buy the new XTR brakes not A or B or any 10spd shifters will fit on them, except the new 11spd shifters.

This will trickle down to the other groupsets later.

They are offering a more ergonomic fit with the new system. Currently you can move your shifter left or right but not so much up or down. When I have my levers as far down as I prefer them, shifting is not as comfortable as it can be, you almost have to go over or under the handlebar with you wrist to shift.

Just dont throw away you old I-spec bolts. It is a frustrating pain in the butt the get hold of them. Coolheat stocks them ... but ... they are for warranty returns only!!

I tried figuring out what would warrant a warranty ... apparently not stripping, cracking, breaking or loosing it?? Making my own ended up being quicker:

I sold a "broken" set of XT brakes for spares to a hubber called Riff after Shimano sent me away. He managed to repair the piston seals and get it going again. He may be able to give you some tips

Thanks for the tip, mill touch base with him when needed

Edit: seems "riff" has left us as I can't find him for a convo!

Will search for it, may be the same as the adaptor another LBS told me about but they couldn't source it from Shimano

Just to be sure, I can buy a left XTR brake lever and it will fit onto the XT shifter? Or do I still use the KCNC clamps?

Thanks wepat but I need a Type A brake lever (left); else would've been an excellent solution!

If you get the KCNC clamps, your shifter bolts into the clamp and that clamps onto the handlebar independently from the brake lever.

In that case it does then not matter whether you buy an A-spec, B-spec or XTR brake lever, you can even go for Magura, Formula, Avid or any other crap.

If you do go XTR and want it I-spec (brake lever and shifter integrated as one unit) ... the only shifter compatible with XTR brakes is XTR 11spd shifters. Nothing else will fit.

But you can have XTR brakes with any shifters independently.

Make sense?

Yup ... if you want something done, build it yourself.

My troubles started when I did the maintenance on the bike myself so I'm trying but moving backwards !

I can get this from a guy in Cape Town for R2000.

He says its compatible with the type A shifters as in this pic, which look similar to mine.
