River Rat Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Today was proper mountain biking. The single track climb was a killer and the descent was a real brake grinder. The long climb was relatively easy but descent next to the pipeline was not easy and just when you thought of cruising home the long stretches of sand made you work for every inch.

I am a very average MTB'er and was at my technical limit. I could ride everything but had to be very careful. The sand on the way in nearly broke my spirit. Excellent marking. Great marshalling and organisation. Much tougher than I expected. My partner dragged me home in just over 4h. The wine tasting and rugby with drinks really caught up with me today. NB: It appears the start is at 7:30 tomorrow!

Jaco-fiets Posted April 26, 2015 Posted April 26, 2015 Race is baie goed gereèl. Baie moeite met al die nuwe singletracks, veral vdag. Weet darem al hoe lyk swartkat hier op hub. Hopelik kan ons aan 6de klou môreWell done aan almal wat die sand, klip en stof trotseer. Wêreld is scary droog hier
TALUS Posted April 27, 2015 Posted April 27, 2015 Baie aangename ondervinding. Ek het vir een of ander rede gedink dit gaan maklik wees. Dit was uitstekend gereel. Soos met enige nuwe projek is daar klein dingetjies wat kan verander. Ek sal per epos terugvoer gee. As die langnaweek weer goed uitwerk is ek terug (fikser die keer!)

I want to do this to. How was the accomidation at Goudini for the family?I am not a big camper but I can tell you that this is 1 of the cleanest facilities I have ever seen. Lots of activities for the kids and best of all they are all free of charge. Your kids will be occupied while you can race and have a good recovery afterwards. I am back next year and camping again

I want to do this to. How was the accomidation at Goudini for the family?First time I came back to Goudini in 20years and I was absolutely blown away. The facility is top class. The bathrooms and the overall neatness of campsite is perfect. Activities for the children and family at the pool area every day. Definitely a must do if you want to make it a family outing.
Dicky DQ Posted April 27, 2015 Author Posted April 27, 2015 So this was a PROPER MTB race (Not a ride as many though) If only I was race ready!  Nothing to moan about (OK Sand and river rocks aside) We know they farm with rocks out there. This sorts the Dirt roadies from the MTB'rs I would say, and there is enough time for things to get sorted out before the singeltrack. A lot of other races can come and learn a thing or 2 about route marking. If you get lost here you must be blind.

Must say, this was up there with all the "big names" like W2W and the other stage races! Marking was excellent and the food even beter, daai beesstert was f'en lekke!
