Hubbers,

Need some help please on sizing a bike for a Gr 7 boy who wants to start MTB'ing.  He is 1.6m tall (don't have any inseam measurements).  Should we go for a 29er or 27.5 in a small frame size? Or 26" wheels?

Where is the "cut off" in terms of length for a person to feel comfortable on a 29er or 27.5?

Given...the bike must last at least 2 years before upgrading.

Any ideas?

Cheers.

if you want him to come straight home then a 29er is best.

If you want him to come home dirty, spent, all funned out and too tired to do home works then a 27.5 is best. He may find a career in MTB racing though...

Off the top of my head I would go 27.5

It is a better choice considering that a 29er is a pretty specific choice prefered by certain riders.

650b seems like a better choice for those who are unsure.

At his current height 650b also seems a better option fit wise.

Plus. He is a kid. This means he will want to do his own stunts.

Laaities that age tend to be more interested in the enduro/downhill type riding.

A 650b will be far better suited to handle the kind of riding he is most likely to enjoy.

This is just assumption though. For all I know he could end up being a race snake.

If he is that tall at grade 7. Chances are he could quite comfortably grow into a 29er within the next 2 years.

mmh, I didnt help you decide did I
