Quick question, need advice.

Just bought a brand new GT Karakoram Comp, noticed that the front tyre is 2.2 wide and the back tyre is 2.0 wide, is this supposed to be like this?

Nothing wrong. Very common to run a wider front. Wider front helps with cornering etc. In fact you will find most people running a 2.1 or 2.2 at the front and a 2.0 or 2.1 at the back for most MTB disciplines. Trail bikes mostly run a 2.3 up front and a 2.1 at the back. Congrats on the new bike, no the LBS did not rip you off. Now go ride and enjoy!!

Will never think of running a 2.1 on the rear of a trail bike that's a bit too narrow.

I'm running a 2.0 on the back of my Camber. And yes, it's way to narrow. I think most trail bikes come out with a 2.3 but that was not going to help with my wider front narrower back story.
