Off on a tangent in Zachariashoek

Last week I spent  a lot of time trying to get information about riding on the Zachariashoek Trails near Franschhoek. I found very little.

 

Over the weekend I ventured out that way and decided not to hit the Matoppie Trail, but rather venture into this lost corner...

 

...and lost it is, but in a good way.

 

The riding was tough. Tracks are rutted and you can't do the loop anymore because of a major wash away after the fires and the resulting erosion. But, I spotted baboon and Klipsringer up on the top of the plateau. The track I was on disappeared further up the mountain. The views are amazing and with "no service" you feel truly out there...

was looking for something on this. had a race route through there a few years back, but it got burnt before we could use it

 

still need to get permits from paarl office?

This looks amazing!  I've only done the trails around the dam and up to the mast.  How do you get to these ones?

Find a path over the river. Plenty of them. Road to that part of the valley is across the river...
