DOdM Posted February 19, 2015 Share Pretty much the same, Merida has a better Rear Derailleur, whereas the axis has better brakes. Only fractional. Comes down to personal preference and feel on the bike. I would go for the Merida, but I'm biased. Also, resale value on Merida might be higher than on the Axis (IMHO). Johny Bravo Posted February 19, 2015 Share Teenagers are mostly very brand concious. Based on that alone I would buy the Merida. Also in this case, I feel its a better bike overall, Merida make quality frames.
DOdM Posted February 19, 2015 Share Check out the links below. Solomons has the A30 on sale for R6999, which all of a sudden makes it a much bigger contender against the Merida's R11999. http://www.solomonsonline.co.za/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=500&products_id=1911 Or you can get the better specced A20 for R11499. http://www.solomonsonline.co.za/CYCLING-EQUIPMENT/BIKES/MOUNTAIN-BIKES/AXIS/Axis-A20-29er-2013?cPath=500&
novice forever Posted February 19, 2015 Share Thanks - are the fork and tyres not higher spec on the Axis?
DOdM Posted February 19, 2015 Share Thanks - are the fork and tyres not higher spec on the Axis? The Fork on both the bikes you originally posted are the same, accept the Axis has remote lockout. Which makes it more convenient, but not "Higher Spec". The Fork on the A20 in the link I posted is however MUCH better. Can't comment on the tyres/wheels
