Seeing as it's the first Stage race where Froome and Contador is competing the race is worthy of it's own Thread, So here it go's:

Vuelta a Andalucia was created in 1925 by the secretary of the Union Velocipédica Española, Miguel Arteman. After the first edition, Vuelta a Andalucia was not held until thirty years later. In 1955 the Malaga Cycling Group took over the organization of the second edition.

From 1956 to 1973, the brothers José and Antonio Téllez Gómez, headed by Emilio Ramos, organized Vuelta a Andalucía. Emilio Ramos in 1973 made contact with Luis Cuevas, cycling events organizer, for inviting him to improve the first sport event of Andalusia.

Form 1974 to 1977 Emilio Ramos and Luis Cuevas worked together ti improve the andalusian cycling. In these four editions, Vuelta a Andalucía arrived to Ceuta, a historical fact in those years.

In 1978, the Vuelta a Andalucía was not held. Then, Luis Cuevas created a new competition called "Ruta Ciclista el Sol", which covered the andalusian territory and the regions of Valencia and Murcia.

Ruta del Sol every time was shining more and more. In 1986, commemorating the first anniversary of the "aperture de la verja", Ruta del Sol entered into Gibraltar on February 5. At that time, the Andalusian Government awarded to Luis Cuevas and formally invited him to organize the first and largest cycling event in Andalusia, giving it the name of "Vuelta a Andalucia, Ruta Ciclista del Sol".

Since the beginning of Vuelta a Andalucía, the company, Deporte Internacional, S.A. DEPORINTER works in its organization. In 1986, the Spanish Cycling Federation and the higher political representation of the Andalusian Goverment decide to entrust the complete organization of the test to DEPORINTER. They worked hardly to improve Vuelta a Andalucía every year, and finally obtained a great result.

The International Cycling Union (UCI) granted to Vuelta a Andalucía the highest score of all professional international cycling tests registered in 2000 and 2001. UCI recognize the value with 99.5 over 100 points. This result exceeds the score received by other great, relevance and prestige test, such as Tour de Francia, Giro de Italia, Vuelta a España and the World Championships.

Since the creation of the UCI continental circuits in 2005, the Vuelta a Andalucía belongs to the UCI Europe Tour, in the 2.1 category.

It's the first round that opens the national cycling calendar every year in the month of February, so it is very expected by the cycling sector.

The significance of this event for the region is undeniable because of its great impact, the projection of Andalusia in and outside of the region and the positive impact in the Andalusian society.
