Understanding MTB - Timing organisations

Good afternoon,

I am familiar with the two main timing organizations in (Racetec and championchip) for most events within RSA.

I have just taken up MTB riding recently and a little at a loss to follow how the timing works within this space.

I see many more timing organizations

SS-Timing, Bikeabout, Great Time, Multi-sport, Racetec, Red Robot timing, Live time to mention but a few

My question/s is really : a simple one

1.

What timing chip/s if any covers most races.

Am I required to purchase all these chips to do MTB and access each portal to get a record of my rides?

2.

SASeeding – seem to sell a life time board chip

Is this useable at all events or is this another chip – quite confusing

Hope you can clarify the above for me

Most races in and ariund Gauteng is done by advendurance; Nissan, National MTN series, etc. They also provide/support/own SAS as well as Livetime ( i think). So get a SAS board and that you'll use at MOST races. Here or there is the odd race that use another timing system where they normally provide you with a board which you hand back at the finish. The SAS board however is yours to keep.
