ROUTE DESCRIPTION Testimony to the high standard of this race, 2015 will see a return of the Cape Epic to our route. New to the two longer routes is breath-taking single-track that will put your down-hill skills to the test. Both the 46 km and 30 km routes take participants through vineyards and orchards before reaching the mountains where you will experience steep climbs (up to 18% of total riding) and descents (up to 29%). The total accumulated elevation for the 30 km route is 718 m and for the 46 km route is 1170m. Both distances include great single track sections with two narrow bridges and a descent with a few tight turns and a steep slope to your left. The technicality of the descent will be influenced greatly by your speed and less experienced riders are recommended to slow down. The longer routes are aimed at experienced cyclists and should not be attempted if you are unfit, or a novice rider. Beware – the 30km is widely regarded as one of the toughest middle routes in the Western Cape! (The good news is that this year there will be an escape option if things get too tough.) The 17 km route follows mainly good gravel roads amongst the vineyards and is ideal for beginners and children. The easy5 km route will not be timed. DIRECTIONS TO VENUE Take the N1 from Cape Town. Just before Worcester, turn left on the R43 towards Ceres. Continue for 26 km and turn right towards Breërivier. Follow the signs to the event. Please note it could take up to 2 hours to drive to the venue from Cape Town. GPS Coordinates: S: 33°31.18; E: 19°13.03 NOTES Only the participants in the 30km and 46km distance will receive a medal. Winners of the 46 km receive their weight in wine! Bring the family for potjiekos and great music afterwards. Rockspider99 Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 I will be there, hopefully!Still need to go get my PPA frame number from the office.Will we be able to bring our Tent do the Night ride, camp out and then do the Saturday morning ride?
