ROUTE DESCRIPTION

This event takes you from the low-lying vineyards of the Hex Valley up the escarpment to the Karoo Plateau. From there the routes follow the old Hex River Pass railway line towards Matroosberg station, completing a circular loop back to De Doorns.

The 55 km route is tough with lots of climbing and should only be attempted by fit, experienced riders. The 35 km route follows most of the long route, but cuts out one tough hilly section. Both routes include great footpath/single track sections. The 15 km route is an enjoyable funride over mostly flat terrain and is suitable for the novice rider.

Remember to put “slime” or tyre lines in your tyres as there are some thorns around, and bring along some spares.

DIRECTIONS TO VENUE

From Cape Town, follow the N1 past Worcester to De Doorns. Take the De Doorns turn-off, to your left at the Engen Garage, (30 km past Worcester) and carry on for 200 m before turning right into De Doorns Wine Cellar’s premises. GPS Coordinates: S: 33°48.00; E: 19°67.00

NOTES

This event has been called “A great ride with some magic scenery; smooth and flowing and well-marked,” by past participants. All routes run through Karoo succulent veld with a great scenic view over the Hex Valley and its mountains. Standard PPA entry fees will be charged, except for the 15 km, which can be entered at a discounted rate. All children u/12must be accompanied by an adult and will be allowed on the 15 km route.

Remember to display your PPA MTB frame number. No helmet, no ride. No transponder, no time - PPA pays for its members to be electronically timed by Racetec.
