Surprisingly good traffic day

Often I read on here about someone being a bit of a plonker on the road so today I thought that I would share my positive experience. Today my experiences of traffic make me think that the PPA could be winning the PR battle with both cyclists at motorists.  My experiences occurred around Sea Point in Cape Town

I have through reproducing not been able to ride much recently but today based on a number of good experiences I have hope.

To start with this morning while trying to walk to the Promenade with the wife and kids we crossed two pedestrian crossings that have traffic lights. At both of these cyclists stopped so that we could cross the road which while being the rules is not always followed strictly.  (In fact Beach Rd is a place where I am often embarrassed to be a cyclist due to other peoples behaviour)

Then late in the afternoon I was able to get out for a quickie of Table Mountain. For me this involves Victoria Rd and The Glen. Every car without exception gave me more than enough room when the came past. These roads are pretty tight and the cars basically had to put at least half of their cars into the lane for on coming traffic to give me a metre, which they all did. These roads are also very busy around that time so I was half expecting to have cars whisk past me with side mirrors brushing my arm hairs which usually get done by at least one plonker.

Maybe I and basking in the bliss of a long weekend or maybe the PPA is winning.

except for the middleaged tubby white douch in the gigantic white jag looking gas guzzler who needed to hoot at me to get out of his way on the totally empty road down into scarbourgh this morning ...obviously he though i should have stopped and stood off the road with my hat in my hand and my eyes downcast as his magnificance roared past -_-

Unfortunately in PE, tragedy struck when an allegedly drunk truck driver hit Clayton (29) and his wife Sonica Kensley, both keen mountain bikers.

Sonica was airlifted to hospital in critical condition but succumbed to her injuries in hospital. Clayton was injured as well, but it sounds like he is out of danger.

Driver is in custody and will appear in court tomorrow.

My condolences to Clayton, his family and friends. This is a terrible loss.
