Silverback Sprada 1 Suspension Pivot Bolts

Hi all...

I have a Silverback Sprada 1 and for a while now my suspension bolts keep coming loose. Had it taken in to a LBS and the guys torqued it again and also put locktight on... The guy from the workshop advised me to change the bearings on the bottom pivot bolts... something about then it can be torqued at a higher Nm.

I would like to know if there are any guys out there/on here that had maybe the same issues?

The other issue I have is its making this "klap geluid" when I'm pedaling and it sounds like its coming from the BB/suspension bracket at the bottom, but it only makes the sound when im pedaling.

Any advice or suggestions welcomed

Thanks

KlotzC - make contact with Silverback directly about the bolt, may be a fault with that one.

Had a similar issue with a Morewood one years back, replaced it.

The noise - difficult to say. Perhaps visit your LBS to let them have a look/listen. It may be something loose or incorrectly seated.

Good luck

@KlotzC  - I had the same issue on my Silverback Slider 1 on the pivot bolts on the down tube. Not very impressed when I first saw it

I added loctite and tightened them, no problem since.

Don't try to re-insert them with the suspension asssembled, there is so little play in the system that it is near impossible to align the holes. First loosen the other suspension bolts...

I can't recall clearly, but the inner race of the bearing is held between a spacer (between the bearing and the frame), and the bolt head. The outer race of the bearing is pressed into the pivot.

If the bolts still work themselves loose, then there could be friction between the bolt head and the pivot, or between the spacer and the pivot. So, I suggest removing the wheel and remoing the shock top mount, flip the bike upside down, tilt the shock out the way. Then move the chainstays by hand and feel for any resistance, maybe remove the other pivot bolts as well so you can feel the resistence on the affected bolts only.

I also added an o-ring each side between the pivot and the frame (around the spacers) for extra weather protection for the bearings.

The guy from the workshop advised me to change the bearings on the bottom pivot bolts... something about then it can be torqued at a higher Nm.

I really hope that is not what he meant   - as described above, the bolts presses agains the bearing inner race, against the spacer, against the frame; the aluminium will strip at a higher torque, no matter what.

Now with the technical bits covered, I also suggest you contact Silverback because if that bolt vibrates around inside the thread in the frame, it will ruin the thread, not easy to repair I imagine.

Regarding the klap geluid, is it maybe the same as in this vid?

My shock suffers from this and it drives me nuts!! Hopefully a warranty claim.

I got a Sprada 2 and mine also came loose, in fact 5 out of the six were loose after 400km. Had them repacked and loctite'd now will keep monitoring.

Update:

The 2015 frame now has a bolt right through the seat tube. No longer 2 bolts which screw into the aluminum.

Great improvement [emoji106]

Good to know... wonder if i will be able to get a new frame?
