"Would you wait" unwritten rules of mountain biking

It really just depends on the situation.

I've had bad seeding in a race where I wasn't the strongest rider, but deffo one of the stronger riders in my seeding.

One guy did his best to stay in front of me and did for most of the jeep track flat sections. We started climbing on a rocky section moving to singletrack, he didn't want to give way, even though he was struggling, did'nt let me pass when I asked to give way. Then first downhill section, I just kept my pace up, and he still didn't give way, so I was getting really frustrated, the field in front of us open, and no one in sight, the field behind us, starting to catch up.  I asked a couple of times to let me through and he just ignored me.

I just kept on his wheel, not really pushing, but not giving him slack, just enough rope to hang himself. First little tech section of the downhill, his front wheel locked up behind a rock and over the bars he went; into a full-on scorpion, I bunny hopped over his bike and rode on.

Normally I would stop, this time I did not. I smiled.

It really depends on the situation - I would stop if it is someone riding by themselves in the middle of the field.  If it is a bad crash, I will stop (par the situation and day described above). If its just a little wipe out; I will ask if the person and their bike is Ok, and continue on if they are.

What was the context of the Kleinhans / Lakata situation? Was it on km 10 of 100 or 95 of 100? If you are in a break early on with a similarly matched rider it pays to work together. If it was towards the end they may have made a deal somewhere during the race to work together. No such deals are generally made in XC.

never mind waiting for you to get up for the right amount of cash i would ride over you, I dont think MTB pays well enough for you to play the good guy.

Never mind the cash... a crasher offers improved traction for those following, especially if they crash in a muddy section.
