hard tail vs dual sus

Seems like with all the new technologies in DS bikes and Rear shocks/dampers, there isn't much of a need for a hardtail anymore.. Even XC riders are on DS bikes now.. That being said, if I want to replace my HT with a DS with the same components, It will cost nearly double..

If you not a pro or a 50+ guy that does not want to part with his HT because he is old school then there is no point riding a HT, Dual sus all the way

Not a Pro and not 50+, but I I disagree totally.

To quote a friend - "Hardtails, both you and the bike get ridden". Go full sus.

Hi guys. I mostly do cross country events like trans baviaans, 100miler etc. For training i do lot's of road cycling on route to xc spots around durbanville. About to buy a silverback sola 1 or giant anthem x1 fs. Obviously the giant is way more expensive. Is it worth the extra bucks? Also it's a heavier bike at 13kg vs the sola 1 at 11.2kg

Go to your nearest friendly bike store and ask for a demo - try it for yourself.

Some shops will let you use it for the weekend or even a week.

Who knows you'll probably end up with both in the end. For XC I'd go with the lighter bike and a fancy set of wheels. A hardtail will teach you to not wallow in the bike like I see lots of DS riders doing.

Just thought I'd propose the opposite opinion since there seem to be a lot of hardtail haters in this thread.

It is true that the bike rides you though as one guy pointed out. At the end of a long race I feel somewhat beaten up. Legs and upper body hurt roughly equally. Not sure what its like on DS as I've honestly never ridden one.

I too have gone to the dark side. I have spent many years on a hardtail. I have always loved the raw back end of the bike keeping you honest! They are light weight and fast but at some point, comfort has to come into play. It definitely takes its toll on the longer rides! My anthem frame will be arriving this week! All my hardtail components and wheels will be built on! Maybe I will keep the ht frame for a single speed project - just in case I feel the need again
