AM Pedal Shootout: Shimano M647 vs M530 vs Crankbrothers Mallet 2

Hi guys, I'm currently shopping for a new set of pedals for my AM bike. I've been using the Shimano M530's & been happy with them, but am keen to upgrade to the M647 DX pedal. They do seem better, yet are similar in some ways, and I like the larger resin platform. But for the big price difference, is it worth it?

Then there's the Crankbrothers Mallet 2. Looks sweet and I'm tempted. However I've seen some reviews that are concerning, saying they don't last and develop play on the axle and bearing issues. Any suggestions?

Why?  They're rather bulky and hella expensive.  Do you experience lack of contact with the M530's?

Careful of upgrading just for the sake of upgrading.  I only change something these days if I can feel it's broken, or not working for me.

Hey Nico, I hear you. But I was thinking that the resin cage of the DX would offer better support/grip for those moments when I'm clipped out and would also be quicker to clip back into. Or am I wrong? What are you using?

I use M530's.  Had DX-type pedals on my DH bike.  Contact patch is better, but I am yet to have a moment due to not being able to clip back in.  It really is just for those little moments when you can't get in and still need to get a foot down.  In DH I reckon if you're hitting proper gnar it makes more sense, but I reckon for AM and trail riding M530's serve the purpose.

Feels like a solution to a non-existent problem.
