Ironman Training

Hi All

 

Right, so after completing a few 70.3's on my road bike (with aero bars, decent set of wheels blah blah), I have taking the plunge and bought a TT bike.

 

I have entered IMSA 2016 and so need some training advice. Do I only ride the TT bike during training or do I alternate between my road bike and TT bike for different types of training?

 

In my mind (and I may be wrong), it seems logical to get as comfortable on my TT bike as possible?

 

Any advice from the guru's would be welcome.

Your set up will be slightly different on the TT bike and you will be riding in a different position which will work different muscles so it makes sense to train regularly on the TT bike to get accustomed to the new position and to get used to spending time in the aero position, drinking / eating in the aero position.

 

That being said you can achieve the above if you alternate between the road and tri bike, its your choice at the end of the day.  I ended up fitting clip on bars to my road bike so no matter which bike I rode I could at least get used to riding on aero bars.

 

I also bought a TT bike for the first time last year and found that it took a few weeks to get used to the handling characteristics  :eek: especially with the deep section wheels at speed (downhill) and in the wind.

bought tt bike 2 weeks ago.nearly got blown off the bike coming down helshoogte in the wind with the deep section rims.snap.
