LarryMTB Posted August 16, 2015 Share We have hosted the first Wees Wakker Fees Momentum MTB Challenge this past weekend in Middelburg. Can any of the Hubbers who took part in it, please give us some feedback and what we can possibly improve?
burgerstian Posted August 17, 2015 Share Definitely would be better with the wind from behind on the way back! Think organising and start/finish was done well. Sufficient parking and the traffic around the start was managed very well. Al though not a technical race the route was challenging enough with the sand and wind. Did a sub 2h and got stuck behind some guys from the 20km so maybe split the routes or delay the 20km start a bit. Deep cattle tracks on the last 2/3km made it difficult to pedal so not sure if there is a way around that.Didnt stop at the water points but the guys there were all very friendly and cheered a lot. There is was three on route which I think is more than enough. All and all a good event and happy to support you guys again next year. Thanks and well done! LarryMTB Posted August 17, 2015 Share Thx Stian. Will look into starting times. Wind on the Highveld in August will always be a factor. We might not have the climbs but we do have the wind to make it a challenge!
drstvads@vodamail.co.za Posted August 17, 2015 Share WEES WAKKER MTB Middelburg!! Was volgens my puik ge-organiseer!! Baie dankie!!! Net 1 voorstel. Waar 19 en 45 km split was daar net 1 bord. Voorstel. So 50 m voor die split sit 'n bord op SPLIT AHEAD!! en so 50m na die split sit net 'n 45KM bord en 'n 19km bord op beide roetes. As iemand verkeerd ry sal hul dan dadelik kan omdraai as hul sien hul is verkeerd. Baie dankie. Ek het dit baie geniet!
FlyingScot Posted August 17, 2015 Share Great race and well done to the organisers!! Will definitely take part again next year. Perhaps have a check with the road and MTB calendar - had to pick between Wees Wakker and Sun City. Would be great to have a 75km route. Although the route profile showed very little climbs, the sand and wind made it quite a challenging ride. Also the fact that it was 45km long, meant it was a sprint to the line - pushing all the way. Route marking was excellent! No issues with the timing - maybe the chips could be in the boards or something similar to SASeeding? Would also be nice to have a KOM point with prizes after the big climb of the day. Agree with the post regarding joining of routes...felt quite swak when I scared a little guy off his MTB on the downhill.
LarryMTB Posted August 17, 2015 Share Agree. Always tough when you have two routes joining at the end. We are already considering a 75km which I believe will give us a greater chance of allowing the kids to finish before the racers come in. Chip was a new idea and the way Protime managed it was exceptional. But will look for the best option when we race again. Thanks for the valuable feedback! And we like giving away prizes - so keep suggestions coming in to make it more fun.
