Hi all, not sure if there is such a group or thread already.

I'm new to cycling (well have done the first race 2nd one this weekend)

But cycling alone gets boring wondering if any body would be intrested in building a group up

Can start by making up a whatsapp group for arrangements and so on

Regards

Groups are great, if you can get past the issues of differing fitness levels, distances and start locations.

What are you planning? I ride alone in the Cradle all the time, happy to join up with anyone.

Never!

Every outing is time to think, and to enjoy being in the present moment. It's meditation in motion.

Your not riding hard enough.

The only thing you should be thinking of is your next breath and about the pain your lungs and legs are experiencing    :whistling:

That's exactly what you experience when you're "riding in the present moment".

Riding in groups is for slackers and socialites - solo riding is the race of truth.

I feel the same. I love riding road alone.

For fitness I think it is much better too, it is much easier when in a group and I think my progression has been much faster alone.

I have tried several different road riding partners... it doesn't work for me.

Riding with partners work better with mountain biking that with road biking IMO. I do have mountain biking partners but it could be cause I do mountain biking for fun.

When it comes to road cycling I cant find anyone with the same pace and fitness and in the end one of the parties make some excuse why they cant do a ride and the riding partnership dies.. I also always feel guilty when I want to push hard up a hill or a certain section and have to wait for the other guy to catch up and the opposite is true as well. No fun if you friend pulls away and you cant keep up. And if your friend doesn't have a road bike its just a waste of time as i sit and free wheel the entire time...

Riding alone is more dangerous but better for fitness and performance I believe especially if you chase your own previous time.

Riding in a group just becomes a "kuier".

There are guys in my area that cycle to hout bay and back for a koffie every weeked... lekker kuier and chat on the way is not my idea of a work out.

I have to agree with Lotus.  I use to love the quiet "me" time when I rode alone fantasizing about my next bike purchase and winning races.  That said, since I have started riding in proper training group in the morning, my average speed has improved by 3 -4km/h!
