Visiting CT looking for road routes

I am visiting CT in mid Dec and looking to hire a road bike for rides early on Sunday and Monday, however I have no idea where the best/safest routes are. Which is a rather strange position for me, as I spent the first 30 yrs of my life in CT but only started cycling when I moved to JHB.

As a result I have a very good understanding of CT roads and I can find my way around very easily but I have just never considered routes in the cycling sense. From what I have gauged, the designed route from CBD to Milnerton going past Woodstock is muggers paradise, while the Durbanville roadies thread is trying really hard to mimic the Cape Town danger areas thread.

Any hubbers out there with some advice? Looked at routes on Google maps and the distances are so close (Paarden Eiland to Melkbos - approx 25km one way)

On a Sunday morning, the City -Atlantic - Hout Bay - Chapmans Peak route will be so full of cyclists, I would consider it as safe as it can be.

If Chappies is open (and it better be) then you can carry on around Cape Point as well. This part will still have many riders, but in light of recent incidents, I would recommend you join up with a couple of others.

It is only a very short part of the Milnerton cycle lane that is a problem, literally 1 km where it crosses the N1. Again, for this part, link up with a few others. The rest of it all the way to Melkbos will be fine.
