Event Name: ISimangaliso MTB 4 Day
When: 18 August 2016
Where: iSimangaliso Wetland Park, Kwazulu-Natal
Category: MTB

This unique 4-day-stage, 260 km event allows Mountain Bikers access to areas within iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, far off the normal tourist routes, allowing riders to experience the values this park has to offer. iSimangaliso is among the most diverse parks in the world with eight interlinking ecosystems, one of the highest bird counts in the country, incredible plant and game species biodiversity (all of the Big Five) and superlative natural beauty. The third day the route transits through Phinda Private game reserve, Big 5 country, after traversing the False Bay hiking trails and St Lucia lake single track and exiting onto the Mzinene floodplain. This is an amazing opportunity to experience and one that will never be forgotten.

The iSimangaliso MTB Event aims at raising awareness and funds towards the protection of rare and endangered species within this world heritage site. It will enable riders to experience the world heritage values for which iSimangaliso was inscribed - biodiversity, interlinking ecosystems and sense of place – using existing management tracks, animal paths, jeep tracks and secondary gravel roads.

All event entries include 4 Nights fully catered, with four choices of accommodation, on a first come first served basis.

If anyone is looking for bike transport to the Isimangaliso 4 day in August and back again, we have space to the start in St Lucia for you, your bag and your bike from Bedfordview in Johannesburg and transport back from the finish in Mantuma on the Sunday. Or just your bike and bag.

Looking forward to my first stage event with my wife in four years after she dislocated her elbow and a year later fracturing her pelvis. Each time it was just before a major stage race. So it's quite a milestone to say that training is wrapped up with a 90km ride last Sunday. Bikes are being serviced and hopefully nothing nasty goes wrong when we test them this weekend.

Who else is in for this one?

What a lekker event this is    .

Not a race, just an awesome way to cruise through the bush. Few hills on the last day but not pain cave category stuff.

At one point had to stop as a herd of buffalo occupied the trail about 10n ahead of us, gave the lycra clad lot a good once-over and decided we're not worth any real attention and strolled off.

Very privileged to have ridden through St Lucia wetlands, Bonamanzi, Phinda, Hluhluwe river Lodge and Mkhuzi reserves.
