Also, Fox forks are all rubbish cos the stanchion coatings wear out?

Bleed Avids properly and rebuild them every 3 years and they'll last forever. My Juicy 7s are 9 years old and still going strong.

I concur My Avids on my DJ bike lasted me 5 years, no hassles, had them serviced once when they got sticky, and they were good as new afterwards. Its all about maintenance.

Hence the origin of the thread, to maintain my Avid shimano   brakes. Thank you guys, your help was appreciated

I have Shimano (deore) brakes on my other bike, but like my elixirs. had a set of elixir 5's and cr's on previous build i did, and loved them. to be honest, prefer the elixir.

I found that with my shimano's, the brakes stiffen up if I ride very technical terrain where I have to use my brakes more often. Had them bled, but they still do it. never had that issue with avids. Apart from my issue now, my avids was smooth sailing all the way.

If your Shimano brakes were stiffening up on long descents then they were probably overfilled at some stage. This happens when they are bled with worn pads in place instead of removing the pads and using the spacer block.

Thanx for the heads up. I had them re-bled last week after I fitted my new pads. Did not have time the weekend to take her out to feel if the problem is gone. But will remember that for future reference, Much obliged
