Converting 11speed Compact to Standard crank

Just as a matter of interest, what is involved in converting a Shimano 105 11speed Compact 50/34 to a standard crankset 53/39 . Do they make chainrings for 110mm bcd in 53/39? Or do I need to replace the whole crank? Getting conflicting information.

Hmmm. Bike shop just told me I need a new crank. But I was suspicious...

Do I need to change anything in the derailleur - it's height? Is it something you can change quickly, like the night before a hilly/super flat ride? Or is it complicated and you'd change it for a longish period. And could a non mechanic do it?

Well your chain will also be too short if you change from compact to standard chainrings. It's fairly simple I guess, but remember, you have to set the height of your front derailleur every time, your chains will wear at different rates, which may mean, depending on how much you ride a certain chain, you'll need two different cassettes as well. In my opinion, choose one and stick to it. Or better yet, get the 52-36 combo.

A non mechanic can do it if you have some technical ability... The FD height needs to be re-adjusted in line with the big blade.... You'll need the correct tools to remove the crank in order to change the chain rings...

I also heard that all you need to do to convert from a compact crank to Standard size, is that you can just change the blades, but this is for 11 Speed version...

*** Don't quote me on the changing of the blades though, I haven't confirmed this***

Oh, yes, as Jetstar500 has mentioned, you need to check your chain length as well, yes...

Of course, I forgot about the chain. Thanks for the info.
