Broken Dura-Ace Shifter

Hi, was wondering if there's anyone out there who knows how or knows someone who knows how to fix shifters? Got this right-hand-side Dura-Ace 7800 10sp shifter via eBay (supposed to be in good working order), but looks like the spring is defective - it won't return to its closed position once opened.

Contact Coolheat via your local LBS and beg them to send off your lever to the agents (Coolheat)  to repair for you. These are the older  7800 as you stated, they may still have spares for you. I sent my newer  LHS lever  off to them and they repaired, although they wanted to send the spares to my local LBS for them to repair. Worth trying though

If you fit that to your bike you will probably find that the spring of the brake calliper is enough to keep the lever in position. I don't think those shifters are repairable anyway.

There is a small spring on the pin that connects the lever to the housing that may not be in place.  The spring has a hook on the one end and an "extension" on the other.  Looking from the bottom you can see a small grub screw that locks the pin in place.  Loosen that and you can knock the pin out with a punch.  This separates the lever from the housing.  Be careful not to loose the small washers/spacers.  If the spring is not broken you can reposition it - hook in hole and the extension on the small ledge.  To keep the spring extension on the ledge while you reassemble the pin arrangement you need a small tube over the end of the spring.  I use a longish pop rivet with the wire nail removed.  Sounds complicated but it is obvious when you have it apart.  If the spring is broken you can get new ones.  They are left/right specific.  check out the Shimano web site for exploded diagrams.
