Sticky 3-pos lever on FIT4 Performance fork

I have a Fox Float 32 Performance FIT4 which came on my 2016 Anthem X. The compression adjustment lever feels rough, as if dirt has got in there. It even occaisonally gets stuck and takes a fair amount of force to move it. Has anyone else experienced this? I have read that it is a common problem on the old CTD rear shock and that dental floss or a brush around the base/sides of the lever solves the problem.

I have removed the lever and cleaned it up but this doesn't solve the problem. There is a washer under the lever that holds a detent spring in. If dirt got under there could this be causing the problem or does it sound like something to do with the damper internals?post-59129-0-32626300-1458217354_thumb.jpg

So incase anyone else is having the same issue as I was, here's how I solved the problem:

Once the blue lever was off, I removed the small retaining ring which holds the spring retainer plate(washer) in place. I didn't have a magnet strong enough to lift the washer, so I flipped the whole bike upside down and picked at the washer to get it off. And then I found the problem...dirt had gunked up the detend ball and spring. (See the picture below). Remove these carefully and clean. Then using a 3mm allen key I turned the compression adjust back and forth while spraying liberal amounts of multipurpose lube to get all the excess gunk out. Reassemble, and it feels like new.
