Good people.

Looking at getting a dirt jumper (or maybe even a Bmx) to mess around with when I go riding with my kids. Reason being its easier than loading up the "expensive bike".

My knowledge of componantary in this space in is pretty limited especially around the forks. Also 2 of the 3 bikes are a flight away so I'll be shipping them to Joburg. The options are as follows:

1---Giant STP 2

- Truvativ Holzfeller 45mm stem

- Shimano Hydraulic Brake (rear)

- Elixir5 Hydraulic Brake (front)

- Marzocchi Dirt Jumper 2, Bomber, Forks (20mm through axle)

- Giant Tracker Hub (front)

- Formula Hub (rear)

- RaceFace Ride DH Crank

- Shimano Deore XT rear derailleur

- Specialized Ground Control Tyres

- WTB Dual Duty FR rims.

All three are solid frames. My 2c from my dirt jumping days:

  • You dont realy want more than 100mm travel on you fork, and a T.A is a way better option than a Q.R.
  • Marzocchi shocks (dirt jam, dirt jump, etc) on a dirt jumper is awesome, they are bullet proof.
  • Get decent platform peddles,
  • Proper gravity cranks (trust me, it suck snapping a crank set)
  • Single speed is better than running multiple gears and derailleurs
  • Solid rims (used to ride Spank/Dartmoor etc)
  • Components to look for is Truvativ Husselfelt, Shimano Zee or Saint, Race Face DH etc

Your option 1 speaks the loudest to my preference. Though the pike on 2 would work well on another build of mine. Good luck with your choice
