Colnago C60 or V1-r, which one?

This is a 1 piece, 900g piece of carbon tubing. There is probably more manufacturing complexity and technology in the right front brake disc of the Ferrari. I guess it comes down to what you are looking for in the frame - all the extra R10k gives you (in my opinion) is the right to tell your friends the frame was made in Italy. It's unlikely to affect performance, resale value or quality - that is my confusion as so many people have commented on this thread about the country of manufacture and very few have commented on the riding performance (probably also a factor of very few having had the opportunity to compare them).

Where are Edge Design frames made?

I totally agree with you but that is a new point and a new discussion totally.

Like you so eloquently missed it has nothing to do with engineering complexity but buying experience.

At the level of Colnago C 60's  and V1-r's you arent really in the same land as the rest of the planet.....

You could, if you wanted to, get the same experience  in a no name brand carbon if you wanted to - or 90% of it. But your mates won't coo and write 6 pages on the hub about your choice.

I think that there is definitely something special and unique about a frameset that is hand-built and made in Italy and I have an appreciation for this even though I may not own such a frameset.

It's different and appeals to those who have an appreciation for such craftsmanship and possibly form of art.

As far as performance goes, the reviews are good and positive and the bikes are held in high regard.

I have not had an opportunity to have a test ride on either model and that is where a Colnago (concept) store would be hugely beneficial for those of us, who want to ride something different and special.

Out of interest - what difference does it really make whether it is made in Taiwan, Italy or South Africa? The equipment, materials and QC are likely to be the same and controlled closely by Colnago (in this case). The only difference is the cost of labour, but you definitely won't know that when you ride it. Given the volumes, the Taiwanese might actually know more about carbon manufacturing than the Italians. You're also putting your faith in a single Italian whose wife might have upset him by overcooking the pasta the night before he was assembling your frame?

Buy the one that looks the best - at R50k+ you're not going to get a bad frame!

Lugs and tubes are moulded by Ferrari Engineering. I think they a bit more about the moulding of intricate carbon parts then most with the exception of perhaps British Aerospace or Lockheed Martin.

Frame parts are assembled at Colnago factory.

C60 offers custom frame geometry  if you so wish thanks to the lug and tube construction. Don't know any Asian factory that offers that.

Then there's the history of Colnago and having a bike built by person whose name is on the down tube as opposed to some unknown character in a mask who today applies a Colnago decal and tomorrow applies a Giant decal.

Its a bit like buying an original Van Gogh or buying a print.

Yes they look the same but the one is art and the other is a facimile of art.

Both get the job done but in the one instance you're buying art not just a bicycle. Authenticity is still something to be valued.
