Dura ace on a MTB

Here's is an idea for a 29 tooth chain ring, take the outer diametre and tooth pattern of a middle burn duo spider/chainring. Then trace the inner circumference of your present chainnring, include the bolt holes. Ammalgamate the two sketches so that you end up with the 29 tooth pattern on the correct BCD. Now what alu to use, any ideas? I am quite sure that a engeneering works will cut the design out.

I used a Cannondale 2x9 29/44 chainset for many years. I ran a Dura ace front derailleur on the bike because the spacing on a 29x44 chainset is the same as on a road bike. Therefore the throw of the derailleur needs to match this.

If you are using a MTB chauinset with the 22T ring removed then a MTB front derailleur will work best. Just set the limit screws to compensate. A road fornt deraillue will work with this set up but the big ring is just a little far away.

Also if you run a dedicated 2x9 set up, A Sram Gripshifter works best. Again the throw on a MTB Shifter is a little too long for reliable functioning with a 2x9setup

Lots of guys on the weightweenie forums run setups like this..works well

and can take just as much abuse as XTR. Just look at cyclocross guys and the mud they ride through, DA is perfect.
