Thanks everyone. I will stubbornly proceed with the post until I choose to cast it off a cliff. On the bright side, it should teach me to be lighter on the bike.

put a spare bolt in your spares kit.... - having done a 36k standing return home because of a broken bolt I can assure you it is not fun....

The way it was explained to me by a materials engineer is that as the bolt fatigues and the material becomes plastic, then it won't hold tension - the only solution is to put in a new rated bolt - overtorquing just hastens the fatigue.

The seatpost that broke a bolt and caused me to curse is now on it's 3rd bolt - the second one got replaced when it started to display the same symptoms you have - problem solved.

Thanks V12Man - is this a common bolt to procure from LBS? I believe that bike manufacturers and LBS secretly ploy not to stock easy-to-replace parts. Hopefully CWC can put me out of my misery.

I just took the bolt to my local nut and bolt shop and asked for a replacement - minimum 8.8 rated - and I think it cost me about R5....

I cannot believe you used the correct spelling for "loosening"

Bro, do you even write. Dont get me started - ive landed a skateboarding sponsorship in my more reckless years due to my ability to write, not ride. Waiting for an idle Friday to write a gonzo internal monologue on the whims of the squeaky brake pad
