Where do you people buy spokes from for custom wheel builds?

It's painful to buy them from the LBS since they seldom stock the correct spokes, so they have to order what you tell them to and then they stick on their usual mark-up for having done absolutely nothing.

I'm looking for 32 x DT Revolution 290mm and 32 x DT Revolution 291mm.  Nipples must be brass, 14mm long (Mavic CXP33 rims need the longer nipples).

Yes, I do stock spokes.

Just some pointers. You require two lengths which are only 1mm apart. Since spokes are under tension, they stretch by up to 2mm when building a wheel. Therefore, one always calculate the exact length and then round it down by up to 2mm.

Since your left and right hand side only differ by 1 mm, I suggest you only buy one of these lengths.

Some spoke importers only bring in odd numbers, others even numbers and even others, odd and even numbers (I'm talking about the length now).

Also, nipple length is something of a strange one. A long/short nipple cannot be used to compensate for incorrect spoke length, as the thread is exactly the same length, whether the nipple is 9mm, 11mm or 14mm.

A longer nipple is a weaker nipple since the square end is then connected through a long tube to the thread, making it prone to shearing during tensioning. Get the shortest nipple that your rim will allow.

Nowadays most rims accept 9mm nipples.

PM me if you want more information.
