Midlands Trip...Any tips on taking bike on flight and routes

Hi there, my wife and I are going up to the midlands KZN for a longweekend of fun. Any tips on flying with our bikes? Will be booking with SAA...will it be better to hire bikes on that side or is it an easy load an go?

Also where are you flying from and 2? Domestic into Pietermaritzburg is generally small planes.
