Power training using a Sigma Rox 10.0 - Advice

Hi all.

I ride with a Sigma Rox 10.0. It figures out your power using cadence, weight, body geometry etc.

I have a few questions:

1. How accurate would the calculation be, if all my details are correct (weight, height, shoulder width)?

2. Could I do power training using the Rox 10.0 power reading? Unfortunately I can't afford a full on power meter, so this is all I have to go on.

3. Does anyone here use a power reading from just a cycle computer - no actual power meter?

Thanks.

Well I have the Sigma Rox 10. I also am lucky enough to have a Stages PM. I didn't know the Rox 10 could do its own calculation of power, based on those factors.

I'll investigate mine and see if I can compare the actual measured values against the calculated values from the Rox 10.

My brother used one and it was fun for him at the start, and gave him a good idea how to work with it. Obviously your power readings for sprints and basically anything under one minute can not be reliable, but for the the longer averages it isn't too far off.

Saying that, it started getting my brother even more interested in training with power, to the point that he now has one of my Quarq cranks and his immediate reaction was that the calculated power is rubbish and is only a good estimate.

In the end, it will show you how to work with it and will help you decide if training with power is for you or not. If you like it, then invest in something proper later on.

JA-Q001 Thats pretty much the reason for my question - I want to start training using power, but don't want to go lay down big money for something I don't quite understand. So I figured, use the Sigma as a base to learn from and then upgrade at a later stage..

Hilton. If you have your PM linked to your Sigma, it won't do the calculations for you, but use those from your PM. All the user settings are used to calculate your power output by the Sigma...
